I used to watch Sailormoon as a kid growing up and had grew to especially appreciate the the aesthetic of art in the show. Similarly, I enjoyed seeing the fire-filled Mars attacks. This is my attempt to capture some of both of those things.

In Ovid’s Metamorphoses Book XIV, Circe was consumed by jealousy and decided to take revenge on Scylla. She concocted a poisonous potion and poured it into the pool where Scylla bathed and this is the scene I sought to interpret in this piece.

When reading The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, I was moved by the part where the Little Prince asking if the venom of the snake will hurt he felt it necessary for his journey home. The Little Prince also had a strong appreciation for sunrises, so I imagined before being bitten, he would have witnessed a last sunrise.

I was interested in exploring the idea of internal conflict and making difficult choices. The King lazily raising a finger to order the death of a magical child and the royal executioner that raised her.

Having great power doesn’t mean one only wields it for big and heroic things. I was interested in studying a quiet moment of one of the powerful planeswalkers, Nissa Revane, from Magic: The Gathering (Wizards of the Coast). Here Nissa uses her energies to spring gentle signs of nature into a lifeless terrain.
